In Scotland 16 year olds have been trusted to vote on the question of independence. Most Americans are against lowering the voting age in the U.S. Many worry that 16 and 17 year olds lack the maturity and knowledge to make such a major decision. The choice they make doesn't just affect them, it affects everyone. In other words Americans want to protect themselves from their choices. Most teens don't really know a lot about politics, but if the U.S. uses this reason to exclude them from voting then the argument can be made that many other American adults should also not be aloud to vote. Every 60 years a survey is given on the knowledge of prospective voters. Most results prove that many voters are misinformed. Some reason that when a person hits 16 they have the most stable idea of politics they probably ever will. Any advancements after that come slow, it at all. It is also argued that most young adults are less likely to vote than older or middle aged adults. But the opinions of young adults still needs to be heard, and in Scotland they are making sure that happens.
