This weekend the White House Corespondents Dinner was held in Washington DC marking the association's 101th year. During this annual event the president makes jokes and is roasted by other individuals. Several popular comedians and speakers made appearances.
Tim Ward and his dog blue both survived a land slide in Oso, Washington last year. One out of the 43 people who were killed by the slide was his wife, and his house was on out of 42 that were destroyed. One year later, an anonymous donor who read Tim's heartbreaking story in news coverage of the landslide's anniversary has paid off the $360,000 mortgage that Ward still owed on the home. He called and said he wanted to help to his banker. Spokeswoman for Chase Bank Darcy Donohoe-Wilmot, said of the JPMorgan Chase private-bank client. "He said, 'How much is the mortgage?' and said he wanted to pay it off." Last week Wilmot said the deal was done. Ward has not been told the name of the donor. 30 out of 42 were resident homes that had no landslide insurance.
A construction worker in Singapore saved a toddler from falling off the second story. Somehow the toddler got his head stuck in in of the railings and was hanging there. A man in Nepal who went missing on saturday after the earth quake has been found and is ok. He went missing and got stuck in an avalanche just 45 minutes away from where he was staying.
Nathan Morris, a cofounder of the band Boyz II Men, helped raise awareness for a homeless man, Charles Gladden, who worked in the senate cafeteria. He has worked there for 8 years doing janitorial work. A lot of the money he receives, he gives to his children who also have financial problems. Using a site called Go Fund Me, he tried to get people to donate to Gladden. His goal was to raise $20,000 for him, $10,000 of this coming from his own foundation. After starting this, he raised $5,000 in one day. He hopes to raise more for this man to help him get back on his feet, and into a home.
A college student at the University of Dubuque organized an event on campus to collect salvageable items for donation.The students name is Freedom Malik. She got tired of watching people throw stuff away that could come to use, and that compelled him to start this event. She has since organized an event called dump or donate where people will either donate stuff and if they have something that can't be donated they dump it.
Obama Administration announced last month that every fourth grader in the United Sates will be given a free one-year family pass to America’s National Parks. According to The Bolton News, Christian Trouesdale, 18, works part-time as a store assistant at Aldi. A 96-year-old man asked Trouesdale for help getting home because he was afraid of the strong winds.The employee held the man’s hand and carried his groceries all the way to his home.The man returned a week later and asked for assistance again, and the employee happily obliged.A passerby saw the par together and snapped this adorable picture.
