At the core of the PGA’s efforts in China is an effort to grow the popularity of the game. But golf’s challenges in China are unlike elsewhere. In the West, golf needs to shorten rounds to accommodate modern schedules and attract youth who just watched Tiger Woods pass 40 years old. In China, the sport needs to build a following almost from scratch. Only 0.07% of the Chinese people plays golf on a day bases which is about a million people. In America golf isn’t cheap, but it’s not generally outrageous. You pay about $50 on average for a round at public courses. In China, you might as well add a zero to the total. Because the first golf course opened in China in 1984, and thirty years later only 600 courses dot the country. the us as around 15,000.

Josh Brown, who plays for the New York Giants, was suspended from one game at the beginning of this season. He was suspended after being arrested in May 2015 in the Seattle area in connection with a domestic abuse incident with his wife. His wife, Molly Brown, didn't speak to NFL investigators during their 10-month investigation that led to Josh Brown's one-game ban without pay. Brown is on the NFL commissioner's exempt list. The minimum suspension for domestic violence is six games. The NFL has said Brown was suspended for just one game, based on their inability to speak with his wife and get timely information from the sheriff's office.

The United States Golf Association is planning to hold the 2017 U.S. Women's Open at a New Jersey golf course owned by Donald Trump. Richard Blumenthal, senator of Connecticut, Edward Markey, senator of Massachusetts, and Bob Casey, senator of Pennsylvania, made the request in a letter sent Monday, asking USGA executive director Mike Davis to consider hold off further events at the properties owned by Trump because of what they said as a "pattern of degrading and dehumanizing women" over decades. USGA spokeswoman Janeen Driscoll said in an email to The Associated Press on Tuesday that the organization's stance on Trump has not changed since it released a statement a couple of months ago about the location about the Open. Bob Menendez, senator of New Jersey, joined the other senators Tuesday in saying the event should be moved, but only if the tournament stays in the state. Menendez says he doesn't agree with disciplining people in New Jersey who depend on the jobs that come from hosting the event. As of now, the event is not being moved, and will be held at Trump's course.

ReplyDeleteAt the core of the PGA’s efforts in China is an effort to grow the popularity of the game.

Gus Bradley isn't worried at all about his job as coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Oakland Raiders beat the Jaguars in Jacksonville 33-16 on Sunday, the Tennessee Titans beat them Thursday 36-22. "I'm not making any excuses," Bradley said. "It was bad." This loss dropped Bradley's record in four seasons to 14-41, and he already came in with the second worst winning percentage for any coach in NFL history with at least 50 games of experience. There was only one person who had a worse record. They are currently 2-5 on the season this year.
