  2. Typically when a rocket is used to send something off to space it breaks off and explodes in the atmosphere. This causes air pollution and a lot of debris that can harm wildlife or an ecosystem. But this year Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin has created a rocket that when shot off into space it flies back down to earth to be reused. How it works is, instead of being a rocket that is just a fuel carrier it instead has a computer of it's own to guide it back home when it is no longer needed.

  3. An app called 'MyShake' is suppose to detect earthquakes. The app's first results show the app is effective. The co-creator of the app Qingkai Kong said, "We found that MyShake could detect large earthquakes, but also small ones, which we never thought would be possible." Since it launched in February, it has detected more than 200 seismic events. The app records data, but Kong plans to add an alert feature that can warn users of earthquakes and give them a chance to reach safety.

  4. A robotic ambulance has been recently designed and went for a test flight on November 14. This machine has been designed to go in areas where helicopters are unable to reach, or to deliver cargo in areas like war zones without attracting the enemies' attention. It is able to do this all without a pilot or person inside of it. The Cormorant (the machine's name) uses ducted fans that are highly protected and less likely to get damaged if it were to bump into something. The Cormorant's system is said to be "smart" enough to correct itself before making an error like landing in an unsafe area. It is also smart enough to make a decision if its task is hard to accomplish. It can either go home, land and wait for instructions, or find a different path. Many test flights are yet to come for this machine as for it has only been tested over a relatively flat terrain for only a short time.

  5. Netflix just announced that you can stream series and movies on the go offline. Some things you can't download and the options will be greater in the future. Once you have updated the app on your phone there is a downloading button near the play button only for shows that allow it. By doing that you have saved the show and are able to view it without internet connection. There are two options for the quality of the movie or series. Standard and Higher. Standard has a lower video resolution, takes up less storage space, and less time to download. Higher is the opposite. It has a higher video resolution, takes up more storage, and more time to download.

  6. Genetically engineered immune cells are changing the game in cancer treatment. A hospital in Great Ormond Street, in London—sat a vial of white blood cells. The cells had been genetically altered to hunt and destroy leukemia. A little girl was in desperate need of help. Chemotherapy wasn't working and neither did a bone marrow transplant. So the doctors asked to permission to try this new medicine, and it worked surprisingly well. The results have stunning in most of the patients tried on.

    One of China's most popular apps is abusing users' private messages. An app called WeChat is taking private messages between users and altering the messages. This also includes random messages about censored topics to be sent and released. These messages are not only under attack if you live in china, any user who was reregistered in with a Chinese phone number, even if switched to an international number, will still have messages sent out.

    Even the smallest Internet-connected devices typically need a battery or power cord. Not for much longer. Technology that lets gadgets work and communicate using only energy from nearby TV, radio, cell-phone, or Wi-Fi signals is headed our way.   10. There was an app that was released in February called "MyShake" which detects earthquakes. The app has 200 seismic events across the world. It has detected both large and small earthquakes. Right now, it only collects and records data, but they soon hope to improve it to notify people so they can reach safety before an earthquake hits. Sensors in Japan only notify people within one minute of the earthquake hitting. It doesn't sound like much but it gives them enough time to atleast hide under a table.

  12. A Israeli artist and computer programmer is leading a project called #laugh. Six years ago 3-D manufacturing company called Made in Space offered this artist the opportunity to make the first in space sculpture. Even though in space there is zero gravity, in 2014 the people at the International Space Station made a 3-D zero gravity printer which astronauts used successfully to print new parts. You can upload your own laugh to a website in which they would make a sculpture out of it if you get the most likes.

If this can be done regularly and rockets can be refueled over and over, spaceflight could become a hundred times cheaper. Two tech billionaires made it happen.   14. The Virgin Galactic suborbital vehicle entered its second phase of testing on Dec. 3, 2016. It was released from its WhiteKnightTwo mothership and glided back down to the Mojave Air and Space Port in California after 10 minutes of flight.

    Ever wondering what is really going on inside your body? Now you can find out with just using a tiny sensor. Using this sensor is can read what is going on inside your body based off of your sweat and information about yourself through smartphones. With sweat doctors can use it to define different diseases in your body. This type of sensor can also work when checking blood test and helping people with other health issues. This new method is being studied at Northwestern University, Illinois, by the name of John Rogers.

  16. The Navy just upgraded their flight simulator technology. The simulator is supposed to resembled the cockpit of an f-18 fighter jet. This simulator is supposed to resemble things that could actually happen in the field. This technology will be showcased at the Industry Training, Simulation, and education conference taking place in Orlando this week.

Israeli artist and computer programmer Eyal Gever, is head of a project called #Laugh. 6 years ago, a 3-D company named Made In Space, offered him the opportunity to be the first artist to have a piece of art in space. They're the folks behind the zero gravity 3-D printer launched to the International Space Station in 2014, which astronauts used to successfully print new parts. In coming up with #Laugh, he had to come up with art that would have universal appeal, literally. The final piece couldn't be specific to any particular country or culture.

    MIT has engineered a non-stick coating for the inside of ketchup bottles. This will prevent the need to shake and hit bottles of ketchup and other things. The non-stick coating is called LiquiGlide. It is a hydrophobic substance, meaning it repels water to help it slide.

  20. On Tuesday, Instagram announced a new addition to the app. The new feature allows people to turn off comments on individual Instagram posts. Before posting, the owner of the account now has the option to "turn off commenting". CEO of Instagram Kevin Systrom said in a blog post the app is making an effort to make the apps environment a "welcoming and safe place for everyone." Instagram also said it will also be releasing a feature to be able to like comments. They also said they are adding a feature that lets users anonymously report friends who might be struggling with suicide and depression. The company will review and connect them to an organization for help.

Onyx Connect, a South African startup with $10.5 million in funding, is preparing to become the “first company to ever manufacture smartphones in Africa.” Its factory, will produce Android phones. The factory is planning to open in early 2017. Africans use mobile phones at about the same rate as people in the U.S., but they must buy foreign, mainly Chinese-made phones, and many of them are too expensive for most Africans. Onyx says that the factory will boost local employment and build affordable smartphones. Onyx says they can build a phone with a camera and a gigabyte of memory for about $30.

  22. RIBA (Robot for Interactive Body Assistance) is the first prototype robot that is able to lift a human being from a wheelchair or bed and vice versa. This robot was created because many nurses and health aides cannot lift a patient after a fall. There are other assistive aides being developed such as HAL (Hybrid Assistive Limb). The robots have been developing in Japan throughout the year. Kokoro is the man behind the creation of these robot devices.

  23. Stackable homes are being developed by Panoramic Interests for the homeless. The homes are just 160 square feet and include a bathroom, kitchen, bed, desk, and storage space. They can be paired side by side or stacked on each other. The plan would be to lease units back to the city for approximately $1000 per month per unit. Almost 7,000 in San Francisco are homeless so this is a possible solution. San Francisco citizens support this idea and are putting on some programs for funding.

  24. On November 14, a new automated ambulance completed its first solo flight. It is designed to eventually carry equipment and people without a pilot. It navigates its way by using laser altimeters, radar and sensors. They say that it is smart enough to correct its own mistakes. Urban Aeronautics stated that the tests run was a significant achievement, and they were very proud of their vehicle.

  26. New bluetooth technology will be two times better at going through walls. The Bluetooth 5 version will start arriving on the market in the next couple months. The other big announcement was that it will have quadruple the range. And doubling the speed means you only need half the power to send the data. Quadruple the range means that it will be able to go from one end of the house to the end of most houses.

Microsoft has just announced on Dec. 2nd that the new Augmented reality (Mixed Reality) head set is available in seven more countries, the headset was originally only available in the US and Canada but as of the 2nd it is now available in Australia, Ireland, France, Germany, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. The AR (MR) headset is currently still in the Development (developers) and Commercial (businesses) stages. Microsoft is allowing people to purchase a max limit of 5 headsets per Account from their website.   28. Ohio is going to trying self-driving semis. With over 70,000 truckers, Ohio has the seconded highest amount of truckers in the U.S. Ohio's governor announced that they are going to take a 35 mile stretch of state highway to test the semis. This whole project will cost $15 millions dollars and it will all be payed by Ohio's taxpayers. They expect that the trucks will not be available for a while and humans will still have to sit in them.

  29. Rockets are usually destroyed after they take their main voyage. But now they can make an upright landing which allows them to be reused again. If this becomes regular, space travel could become hundred times cheaper. Two tech billionaires made it happen and they belong to two different companies but both need to have reusable rockets.   30. Amputees still struggle with basic skills of everyday life. The new biotic arm made by Deka is nearly as good as the real thing. It is nicknamed the Luke Arm and it is the first prosthesis that allows a person to make multiple movements like rotating a wrist and open a hand all at once. The Luke Arm project manager said, "Ten minutes after putting it on, people are able to pick things up." In a clinical trial, 90% of the 36 participants were able to do previously impossible tasks like unlocking a door or using chopsticks.

  31. Amazon has created a new store that eliminates lines. In Seattle, WA, Amazon Go is a grocery store that you need your phone and an app to enter. Once inside pick up whatever it is you need and your phone automatically detects it. The item is then put into your 'cart' on the app and once you leave, you pay through your account. The app is linked to your card and pays for what you take. The stores are very compact and easy to use to allow people to come in and out quickly.

  32. There is now an app that can recognize any face in the world called Blippar. The app is meant for those moments when you see a celebrity and just can't place what movie they are in. The CEO said that you are almost creating your own human billboard for yourself. To identify a face you have to hold your phones camera up to it. If their face is in the Blippars database, a circular avatar will appear surrounded by other circles containing information about them.

  34. New gene editing method is providing a precise way to modify crops. The new method will create larger yields more food and resist drought and disease more effectively. The technology is known as CRISPR. groups in China are using the technique on rice in efforts to boost yields. A group in the U.K. has used it to tweak a gene in barley that helps govern seed germination, which could aid efforts to produce drought-resistant varieties.

  35. There is a new app called Blippar that can recognize faces as well as objects. The app can now recognize up to 70,000 public figures by looking at images, videos, or an actual person. All you have to do is open the app, face your camera at whatever you want identified, and it will show up what it is and more information about it. If somebody's face is in the app as one of the recognized faces, they have the right to get it taken down within 24 hours.

So for those who don't there is a new way to write a handwritten letter without having to actually write it. It is a robotic arm that writes beautiful penmanship for you. You type in the letters and it will write it on the paper for you.

  37. IN the PBR and NFR world finals and at the competitions. They use drones to video the rides. They started doing this just in the last couple years. It help them get better angles of the riders positions and if they slap the bull. They are able to tell if they rode the howl 8 seconds or if they didn't. It really helps them tell whats happening.
    Also in the last ten years they started to use robots to milk cows. The cows have a tag thing on them to tell them when to come in to milk then they all line up. Next the cows walk in and the robots wash of the tits and then they bring in the milker and put that on it has lazers to line up to the tits. Then the cows get iodine put on and walk out and eat. Its very expensive though. The first milker cost $500000 then the next one is $250000.

CRISPR has discovered a new way for crops to not only produce more in a short amount of time but to have the crops be drought-resistant and disease-resistant. the genetic makeup of potatoes, tomatoes, and other crops is being altered to fight fungal diseases. China and the UK have already began to change the genetic makeup of wheat and barely. No chemicals are required to alter the genes and it should be coming to the USA soon.
