  2. The yearly Iditarod sled dog race was suppose to start Sunday. Parts of the race have been changed due to the lack of snow. The original course would have started in Willow, Alaska, north of Anchorage, and ended in Nome. This year it'll start in Fairbanks and ending in Nome. The racer's will be avoiding Alaska Range because of the lack of snow. This is the second time in three years that the Iditarod route has been changed, because of the record warmths in Alaska. Warmer weather has led to longer growing seasons. Tree brush has been invading on trail areas, forcing people to send crews out to make the trails safer.

  6. Sunday snow started to fall in Waterloo, at first it came down light, but it didn't take long for it to build up. The DOT of Waterloo states they are taking all precautions they can to prevent any accidents as winter does not seem to have an end at this point. Many people were out and about, saying the snow doesn't bother them, they just wish it would stop. Slifer, a resident of Waterloo was deeply upset when the snow started to fall, he was more than ready to play disk golf without a winter coat. The majority of people claim they are not worried, as winter in Iowa is unpredictable, and you have to be ready for anything. The Department of Transportation hopes the snow will impact the driving speeds, as they would prefer people slow down on the wet roads.

  9. Some locations like New York state, Pennsylvania, and New England are supposed to get so much snow, that it could be record breaking since the biggest March snowstorm in 1993. The weather said that there could even be thunder and lightening along with the snow in those places. New York State Park has not recorded more than 10 inches of snow since the 1993 snowstorm. In Southeastern Virginia, Southeastern Maryland, southern Delaware, southern New Jersey and Cape Cod Massachusetts is expected to get all rain or a mix of snow and rain. This can affect how people can get to work or places they need to go and how they dress, also if they had plans, sometimes this can affect their plans.

  10. Last week, in western New York, a windstorm knocked out power to over 200,000 homes. Still 8,000 homes are without power. The cold weather and strong winds in New York left one house entirely covered with ice. The house is along the shore of Lake Ontario, which is considered one of the snowiest areas in the county. The house was hit by water from the lake caused by freezing winds. Many people thought the owners sprayed foam, imitating ice, onto the house. The house is actually a beach house, so no one is residing in it currently.

  11. The annual Iditarod sled dog race was set to begin on Sunday, but due to the lack of snow they had to change the staring location and parts of the route. It now has to start father north and will still end in the same ending location. Because the new starting place is about 300 miles away from the original, the participants were given an extra day to prepare. This is the second time in three years that the route had to be altered. In 2016, Alaska experienced a record warmth making it the warmest May the state has seen in 137 years. If the ground beneath is dirt or gravel-based then about 6 inches of snow is needed for the race. However if the ground is more mountainous or rocky, then the racers need about 3 feet of snow. Another change to the race that has nothing to do with weather is that cell phones are now allowed.
