  1. Millions of people marched on Earth Day in support of scientists who met in Washington D.C. to protest funds being cut by the Trump administration. There was a social media campaign encouraging people to join in and support science on earth day. The budget cuts are effecting the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The organizers of the campaign said the goal was to convince officials to "adopt policies consistent with the scientific consensus on climate change, vaccines and other issues." The marches took place in The United States, Canada, Iceland, France, UK.

  2. Spring is upon us and that means spring football is here. With most college football teams already wrapped up with the spring game, Iowa played last Friday night. The defence showed up beating the offence 63-47. Josey Jewell is expected to be the leader of the defence, but Jake Gervase was the MVP Friday night with 3 interceptions, one of them being a pick six. The offence was the weak point of the night with both quarterbacks throwing interceptions.

  9. If you were expecting April showers this spring, you might just be in for a surprise
With the first day of the new season coming up fast, most Americans can look forward to next month being warm rather than wet. That's according to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Climate Prediction Center -- which released its seasonal outlook Thursday. The outlook -- which covers April, May and June -- says that most of the country should be expecting normal precipitation levels and much higher than normal temperatures.

  13. Spring is the season where things in the world come to life and sprout with potential. Springtime and cheese are similar. There are videos on Facebook of cows and goats excited to leave the barn and get the the freshly sprouted grass. Cheeses made from spring milk contain bright flavors that cheese lovers are looking for. The warmer weather moves people toward lighter flavors like cheeses that are creamy and crumbly at the same time. Spring is also good for aged cheese as well.

  15. On Saturday at the San Francisco Botanical Garden, hundreds of flower lovers were on hand. The botanical garden, on the Lincoln Way side of Golden Gate Park, seems far from anyplace, not just from Lafayette. It’s full of long pathways leading past plants with long Latin names. The names are on little signs, alongside other little signs that say you mustn’t pick them and you mustn’t step on them and you mustn’t step on the caterpillars, either.

They sent out some mind blowing pictures on social media to show just how beautiful it is. The images were taken by astronauts and various spacecrafts. Many others photos consisted of the earth in different places like the Bahamas, Med Sea, Australia and Italy.

  19. Planting all around in the us has taken off to a big start. Rain has been slowing everything down but farmers have been planting as fast as they can. Always look for the slow moving signs on the back of the implements because you never know what will happen. Last year at this time 36% of the corn and oats was planted and this year only 5% of it is planted. State wide 8% of the corn has been planted 9 days after last years and 3 day behind the 5 year average.

  20. Mushroom Hunting

Mushroom hunting is a very important event that occurs in our area every Spring. After the nice warm rainy days, the mushrooms have been popping up through the ground. Several family go through the woods for hours at a time trying to find these seasonal mushrooms. Mushroom hunting is very traditional and recipes for cooking the mushrooms have been passed down for generations.

  21. The spring football season is almost over with only a half-dozen games left this upcoming weekend. Ohio State sold out its spring game, 80,000 plus fans came. Michigan had 57,00 and even Michigan State had 25,000, but not Maryland. There wasn't even a official number of attendance because it was so low. However if you view the pictures fro tweets about the game, the only people attending were mostly just the student section. Maryland last year averaged about 40,000 fans per game which was just in front of Northwestern and Purdue out of the 14 big ten teams. One of the tweets stated "Guarantee there are more people at the party you're currently attending than at the Maryland Spring Game." Which was tweeted by Campus Sports.

Beekeepers are warning everyone to leave them alone or call professionals to capture them. The bee population in our country has been on the decline for decades and the first bumblebee in the United States was put on the endangered list earlier this year. The more we harm them, the less apples, oranges, peaches, and almonds we would have.

  25. Spring is here which mean Iowa Hawkeye football is back. Friday’s spring finale at Kinnick Stadium consisted mostly of steady, not spectacular, plays. Only three touchdowns total were scored in the Iowa defense’s 63-47 victory, and one was on a 59-yard interception return by Jake Gervase. There are plenty of questions remaining for the Hawkeyes this offseason, and head coach Kirk Ferentz will scrutinize those areas over the next three months.

  30. As some people are excited for spring, others are preparing to suffer from allergies. The department of medicine in New York says that allergies affect millions of people in the U.S. and it's almost impossible to avoid pollen entirely. During this time, trees and plants release pollen into the air which can enter your nasal passages and trigger immune responses. They are suggesting that people keep their windows closed, checking pollen counts, shower often, wash clothes regularly, etc.

  32. The arrival of spring also starts the mark of nesting season for penguins. At the Shedd Aquarium during April in Chicago, rockhopper and Magellanic will start to build their nest to begin mating. April 25th was World Penguin Day and in honor of the day, the Shedd Aquarium shared a special look into the penguin's habitat during nesting season. Since 1994, penguin nesting rituals have taken place. The staff at the aquarium help to make the nesting and mating more natural by adapting the light cycle and scatter rocks and twigs around the habitat. The penguins collect and use the sticks and rocks that are found in their exhibit to build their nest. The males then choose the perfect rock that will attract the female to mate with her. Once the nest is built and the eggs are laid, visitors usually have a hard time spotting the eggs, even though the nest is easy to see. The aquarium states that visitors should expect to see eggs at the end of April into May.
