  1. The past decade has sent Haiti a series of some of the most unfortunate natural disasters recorded, and Hurricane Irma is no different. People are losing hope in Haiti almost as fast as the country is losing money, being forced to pay from the severe damage almost yearly only to be hit by another hurricane or earthquake. One 35-year old mother was reported saying “How much worse can our lives get? … So they say I should board up my house? With what? Wood? Who’s going to pay? With what money will I buy it? Ha! I don’t even have a tin roof. If the winds come, I can’t do anything but hope to live.” This is how Nadeige Jean and many more people from Haiti are seeing the world because of the extremely fragile state of the country. Hurricane Irma will be especially difficult to deal with, since Hurricane Matthew hit Haiti just last October. This is why groups to raise money and build shelters in Haiti exist, and they should probably be paid more attention now than ever.

  2. Port Au Prince, Haiti was hit with the worst storm ever recorded in the Atlantic Ocean. The island has been hit by two of the major natural disasters in a decade. All of this is happening as Hurricane Irma is coming to Haiti too. Haiti is also the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Hurricane Irma was scheduled to go past offshore, but even that could flood roads and bring down old buildings. Haiti is having a hard time providing basic shelter to its 11 million residents.

  4. UPS and Red Cross are testing out technology to help out victims in need during the back-to-back hurricanes. The first test will take place over the upcoming week. They plan to fly drones 400 feet above ground with a 30x zoom camera to identify who needs help more quickly-and while disasters are still unfolding.

  6. Hurricane Irma isn't the only thing that is hitting Florida. When there is enough circulation up over land pop-up tornadoes are also a threat. These pop-up tornadoes come with very little warning and they come fast. More than 150 miles southwest of Irma's eye there was a tornado by the everglades that destroyed several homes.

  8. A Texas chemical plant exploded after being flooded by water from Hurricane Harvey. The plant produced chemicals used to make plastic. The chemicals produced are very volatile and just a slight amount of heat will cause them to burn or explode. When the flood waters made the plant lose power two of the containers of the peroxides exploded and the rest are expected to explode also. 1.5 miles around the plant were evacuated.

The estimated amount of money that is going to have to be spent is $172 billon, it is worst then even Hurricane Katrina. This estimate was made before the hurricane hit Florida. 14. Two hurricanes that were back to back have plunged the United States into a national crisis. It's already been seen, one worst case scenario in Texas. For the moment, Hurricane Harvey is the most costly natural disaster in U.S. history. Now there is Irma, which has reached across the entire state of Florida. America’s most vulnerable state. In only two weeks, the U.S. could bring up hundreds of billions of dollars in losses. Houston and South Florida have been considered two of the most vulnerable regions. They are carved out of swamps in some of the most storm prone parts of the Earth. Now they are at least partially destroyed. Climate change doesn’t cause disasters like this, but it is making them worse.

  28. At a nursing home 8 people who where attending this home died because of Hurricane Irma. They died because Irma took out the air conditioning, the police believe that the deaths were heat related. Also the air conditioning getting wiped out could have let carbon monoxide be released and met the elderly rehabilitation center and killed the residents, but the police say this is still to be under investigation.
