  4. On Saturday the Iowa State Cyclones defeated #3 Oklahoma. This was one of the biggest upsets this all time let alone this season. This was the first time Iowa State has beaten Oklahoma since 1990 and 3rd ever win against Oklahoma. They were also 31 point underdogs. They started down 14-0. And would end up winning the game 38-31 with an amazing catch for a touchdown by Allen Lazard. This might be the biggest upset for Iowa St since they last beat Oklahoma in 1990 which was a final score of 33-31.One more crazy thing was that it was not even their first string quarterback that was the starter or that finished the game. It was their Third string quarterback Kyle Kempt that ended up with the statline of 18-24 343 yards passing and 3 Touchdowns. Before this game he had only thrwon 2 passes for 15 yards. Making it another reason why this was one of the hugest upsets ever.

  11. An electronic sign in the small Iowa town of Sutherland scrolled through a painful message this last week: RIP: "Carly." Carly is a mother, community member, and wife from Sutherland, IA. She was killed in the Las Vegas shooting, taking with her an old perspective of those who live in Sutherland. Their population is only 600, which is less than a twentieth of the people at the concert. This, as you can tell, is why people of this community never think about their population being murdered.

  14. Iowa has been known as the “king of corn” state for almost two decades. Iowan corn farmers grew 2.5 billion bushels of corn on 13 million acres of land. This happened in 2015. Iowa is also the number one pork producer in the U.S. Here's a conversation with Leo Landis exploring how Iowa became the agricultural state that it is today. Also as well as how farming has influenced Iowa's culture. "There was a lot of shared work, both domestically and on the farm, that made you have to be friendly with your neighbors to survive and profit," says Leo Landis. "I think that does still shape us today as Iowans."

There are 6 different cell phone carriers that are apart of this, and it involves 94 out of the 99 counties in Iowa. They can use this method during a home invasion/break in, kidnappings, and medical emergencies. They started this system for situations when a voice call would put them in even more danger. It's also for situations when speech could be impaired for some reason. Reynolds stated that calling is preferred because it's quicker than a text would be.

  30. Iowa City-Iowa's prisons agency has fired a judge after a ruling in which she dismissed sanctions against an inmate because the meaning of a two-letter acronym was unclear to her. The firing of Administrative Law Judge Renee Sneitzer has prompted her to allege she suffered retaliation and discrimination and renewed questions about the independence of judges who work for the Department of Corrections. In a July 12 ruling, Sneitzer rejected the department's request to take away "good time" from a work-release offender accused of rules violations. Sneitzer ruled that doing so would be unfair because the term "DH" in the staff disciplinary report was unclear. Department general counsel Michael Savala told Sneitzer in a termination letter that the she ignored his directive to send such reports back to staff for clarification.
