  1. Pope Francis married a chilean flight-attendant couple in the middle of a flight from Santiago to Iquique Thursday morning. The couple planned to get married 8 years ago, but the wedding got cancelled because an enormous earthquake destroyed the church. After learning they weren't married by the church, Francis offered to marry them on the plane. Francis also drafted a handwritten wedding certificate. His action displease those who already think he doesn't take marriage seriously enough.

Medical students have been forced to do these procedures despite their religious beliefs. The procedures that the hospital workers are having to do are abortions and euthanasia. 3. The Golden Lampstand Church in Shanxi Province was demolished by Chinese police officers. It was one of the country's largest evangelical churches. More than 50,000 Christians worshiped in this church. They used heavy machinery and dynamite to destroy the church. The government has been destroying churches because the Communist Party fears that Christianity is a threat to their authority. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/12/world/asia/china-church-dynamite.html?ref=topics

  6. Leaders in the Pennsylvania Sate House have made it to where only religious individuals are fit to deliver the opening invocation before each session. This may cause the house to be taken to court. A group of atheist and secular organizations filed a federal lawsuit on Thursday. In this lawsuit they claimed that Republican leadership is unconstitutionally discriminating towards nonbelievers who want to offer lawmakers with guidance with their non beliefs.

  7. President Trump is trying to protect the heath care worker's religious rights when they refuse to help their patients. By providing this protection for the workers, it could include the refusal to treat LGBT people. The Trump administration is trying to put a more wide view of religious rights and liberties. This division will allow protection from health care providers to not preform any acts for workers. There will be many challenges for this division.

  10. There are 2 important things that have had an impact on teacher-based racial discrimination. Kids who experienced this felt like they didn't belong in school. These teachers who discriminated made these kids feel less important. This occurred mostly to African American and Caribbean Students. "For African American kids, perceiving more racial discrimination from teachers and reporting lower racial pride beliefs was associated with less school bonding." Butler-Barnes said. "Not having racial pride was very harmful in school settings where teachers were discriminating more." This impacted many religious beliefs as well.

  16. The Church of England is making slow moves to welcoming the LGBT Christians. During a General Synod conference in York, England, the state church’s top leaders voted in two measures that signal a shift in the denomination’s approach towards LGBTQ Christians. On Sunday, the church passed a motion on welcoming and affirming transgender Christians and pledged that Bishops would consider creating special services and liturgies that would help a person mark their gender transition.
“Across the world, trans people have been subjected to appalling violence against them. In the UK, transphobic hate crime has risen by 170 percent in the last year,” Newlands said, according to the Guardian.

  18. Last week, at least five peaceful protesters in Darfur were killed by Sudanese security forces at the Kalma refugee camp. The killings took place before a provocative attempt by war crimes-indicted head of state President Omar al-Bashir to visit the camp and paint a picture of life in his country at odds with the reality of millions living in camps and caves. Despite Sudan's long and well-documented history of persecuting Christians and other religious and ethnic minorities, the timing of these killings is especially surprising.

  19. Back in 2017 Pope Francis wanted to change the lord's prayer. He suggests changing one line because it may be misinterpreted. In the language english the most well known prayer in the catholic church there's a line that reads " and lead us not into temptation" and he believed it's confusing so he involved the church the people and the government to change this line in the Lord's prayer.

Many people stated their mind at the board meeting, saying that Christians do not believe in the same god as muslims. Some say that it was playing with the children's eternal lives. 24. A lot of people think that religion is the root of the worlds conflict and it is the reason why there is so much fighting. Sunni Muslim girl named Yasmine Mohammed from Canada said the first thing that islam religion teaches you is that you do not question but follow. And that she had to follow was a Muslim supremacy ideology and that was called on for violence against anyone who got out of line. In a global survey that they took about primary source of global conflict today, religious beliefs came out on top with 30% then having power in second and so on.

  27. A Florida legislative subcommittee has unanimously approved a bill that calls for the state’s motto, “In God We Trust,” to be placed in every public school.

The bill, which calls for each district school board to adopt rules about displaying the motto “in a conspicuous place,” was co-sponsored by state Rep. Kimberly Daniels, a Democrat and a minister affiliated with churches in Jacksonville and Fort Lauderdale.
But Maggie Garrett, legislative director for Americans United for Separation of Church and State, told the Tampa Bay Times such a stance would differ from court rulings barring schools from promoting religion.
