  1. Sunday morning firefighters worked diligently for two and a half hours to put out a big house fire. The fire started approximately around 4:45 A.M. The fire took place in an abandoned house. The house is four miles from the town called Waucoma. The cause of the fire is still yet to be determined. Luckily were no injuries from the house fire.

  2. The Minnesota Lynx which were the 2017 WNBA champions, played the team Washington Mystics at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines on Sunday. The game is the first WNBA game to be played in Iowa and is both the teams’ first game of the pre-season.

  3. The Iowan man who was starving his child has been sentenced to 30 years in prision. He starved a 16 year old girl until she died at just 81 pounds. She was also being tortured in other ways by the father. The father's ex is in jail for three life sentences for killing Natalie Finn. Also he boarded up the house so the girl could not escape. It wasn't here real father either. According to Kwwl, The Girl was adopted by the father along with a few others.

  4. Many police officers in Iowa are saying the state is getting worse and worse. Violent rimes and drug uses are increasing tremendously. They also say that drug use and a lack of mental health services are increasing crime numbers as well. The Department of Corrections is hosting a summit on this problem next month. Murder and non-negligent manslaughter cases rose 25 percent statewide from 2014 to 2016!

  5. In Mitchellville, Iowa, Authorities say a corrections officer at Iowa Correctional Institution for woman was assaulted by an inmate. This incident happened on Friday 4:30pm. The officer and another member of the staff was working in a mental health unit when an inmate started verbally abusing the officers. When the inmate was told to go back to her cell she started punching, wresting, and pulling the hair of one of the officers. The officers were able to gain control of the inmate and the officer wasn't seriously injured.

  6. After more than twenty years a woman is back on her horse, thanks to a group of Iowa students. Twenty years ago Monna Metcalf lost her leg in a farming accident and recently has been having complications while riding her horse. A group of Iowa engineering students from the University of Iowa created her a custom prosthetic leg to solve that problem. These students made it there senior project and dedicated it to her. The students met with Monna's doctors and her prosthetic and tested several prototypes. Monna is not back on her horse and riding comfortbaly.

  7. Iowa's own Maddie Poppe has done it again and advanced to the top 5 singers left in American Idol. Clarksville held a party for her at their high school. The contestants were to sing two songs one had to be a Prince song, and the other song had to be released the year the contestant was born. Maddie sang " Nothing Compares 2 U" and "If It Makes You Happy" by Sheryl Crow. She will make her next appearance next Sunday, and to vote for her text 10 to 21523, download the app, and go to abc.go.com.

  8. The Iowa State Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Sunday. A 54 year old Patrick Donohoe died on Sunday morning after he lost control of his Cadillac and flipped it several times. He was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. Donohoe was pronounced dead on the scene Sunday morning. He was traveling on the County Highway F52 near R Avenue, when he crashed.

  9. A 12 year old boy was killed by a safe after it fell on him. This happened in Nora Springs, which is near Mason City. His father and himself were loading the safe onto a trailer when it hit him. The accident happened at around 4:40 P.M. The boy was Karson Ott, and his father's Larry.

  10. Police say a twelve year old boy was killed by a falling safe. This happened Sunday evening at his house in Nora Springs. Jessie Dugan released that the boy and father were loading the safe on a trailer and thats when the boy was killed. The boys name is Karson Ott and his fathers name is Larry Ott. Jessie Dugan has denied to answer anymore questions about the accident.

  11. 54 year old Patrick Donohoe died on Sunday morning after he crashed his Cadillac and flipped it. He ended up being ejected from the vehicle during the accident because he wasn't wearing a seatbelt. He was pronounced dead on Sunday morning. Police reports said he instantly died on impact of the crash. He was on the County Highway F52 near R Avenue when the crash had occurred.

  12. A long time hot dog stand in Sioux City is coming to an end. Since 1975 George's hot dog shop has been in business but it hasn't been until recently that the landlord said he plans to demolish the building site. The couple from Greece who originally started the business will continue to sell hot dogs until the 31st of May. The landlord resides in Fargo, North Dakota. Another hot dog shop in the area has also been closed recently but due to different circumstances.

  14. In Shell Rock, Iowa, a 7-week-old baby was hit in the head by a softball during a game. It was the baby's dad's softball game. She has been hospitalized with skull fractures, two brain bleeds, and several seizures. She was flown to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. After being seizure free for 48 hours, doctors began weaning her off of her seizure medication.

  15. A police officer in southeastern Iowa has been charged with domestic abuse assault after being accused of attacking her girlfriend with a knife. It was reported that a woman, Janay Pritchett, was accused of attacking her girlfriend with a knife. Janay's girlfriend called police to her home on May 3rd, claiming that she and Janay were arguing, and eventually Janay hit her and pulled out a knife, cutting the left side of her neck. Janay's girlfriend also said that Janay threatened to shoot her with a shotgun. Janay Pritchett has refused to comment when she was reached by the Des Moines Register.

  16. Iowa State Officials are saying that they are making changes on how the university responds to reports of sexual violence. The university has received sexual lawsuits due to them mishandling the cases. One case was settled on Monday for $47,500. Officials say the charges could have been raised higher, but the clients were satisfied with the university spreading awareness and taking action to sexual violence cases so they left the charge as it was.

  17. A man was sentenced to 20 years in prison in Buchanan County on Monday after being convicted of making meth. Cody Brown was found making the drug in an outbuilding of a Brandon home in August 2016. Brown faces the 20-year sentence after being convicted of Manufacturing Methamphetamine, Possession of Pseudoephedrine with Intent to Use as a Precursor and Possession of Ammonia Nitrate with Intent to Use as a Precursor.

  18. In Postville, Iowa man was killed after a tree fell. The man named Stephen Smith was cutting down a tree and as it fell he was then pinned between the tree and ground. The Sheriff's Office says that the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

  19. State and local officers are investigating the death of man whose body was found by firefighters in southern Iowa's Appanoose County. The police department said its the body of 51 year old Timothy Pasa was found Saturday in a fire-damaged Centerville house. One firefighter was injured battling the blaze but was released from a hospital Sunday morning. The cause of Pasa's death hasn't been released.

  21. A local Postville man died on Tuesday after a tree he was cutting down fell on him, killing him. The man was identified as 65 year old Stephen Smith. He was found pinned underneath the tree, and was pronounced dead at the scene by Allamakee County Sherriff's Department and paramedics. Services have not yet been determined. The city of Postville has not made any comments pertaining to this accident.

  22. In Cresco, Iowa there is a teacher being accused of having sex with a student. 29 year old Tiffany Ranweiler-Oblander had sex at least 5 times at the boys house. She was charged with sexual exploitation. A trial hasn't been sentenced.

  23. In Mt.Pleasant iowa ICE arrests 32 for immigration violations. The most men were from Guatemala. ICE says it is no danger to anyone it is an ongoing investigation. ICE says they will stay in custody until they are either removed or their cases are closed.

  24. In Sioux City, a 12 year old boy was taken into custody after Stealing a Bobcat Skid loader. The police car was damaged after the kid ran skid loader into the police car. No one was hurt or injured.

  25. 51 year-old, Richard Remme from Fort Dodge claimed that his dog shot him while they were rough-housing on Wednesday. Balew, the pitbull-Labrador mix bounded up to Remme and stepped on the safety of the gun on his belly band and stepped on the trigger. Remme was shot in the leg and treated at the hospital before being released that same day. Police Chief Roger Porter called the shooting a freakish occurrence.

Maddie is from Clarksville Iowa, and sang "Nothing Compares 2 U" this past weekend, to advance. Lionel Richie said that he loves seeing Maddie use different instruments. Also another judge Katy Perry said, even if Maddie doesn't win she still will buy tickets to her shows. Maddie is doing a fabulous job in the American Idol and SHE IS MY COUSIN!

  27. An Iowa man says that his dog shot him while they were playing around. The man pushed the dog off his lap and the gun was on the floor. The dog accidentally stepped on the trigger and it fired. The bullet hit the man in one of his legs. The man was taken to the hospital and later released. The man told The Messenger newspaper that his dog is a "big wuss" and laid down beside him and cried because he thought he had done something wrong.

  29. A minor was killed in Clarksville, Iowa yesterday afternoon. A boy was killed by an accidental shooting. Authorities say when they arrived at the scene their were 3 people there and they were all under the age of 18. Police are not releasing names at this time and the case remains under investigation.

  30. A 7-week-old baby is being treated for skull fractures and brain bleeds after she was hit in the head by a softball while watching her father, Lee Hovenga play in northeastern Iowa. Authorities say the overthrown softball hit the baby known as McKenna Hovenga and her mom, Kassy, as they watched the game Wednesday in Shell Rock, which is 95 miles northeast of Des Moines. McKenna was taken to a local hospital then flown to St. Mary's Hospital at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. A post on Facebook on the Healing for McKenna page said that after 48 hours without a seizure, doctors have started to cease McKenna off her seizure medication. A neurologist told the family that McKenna's brain activity is calming down.
