  1. Mollie Tibbetts, Missing Iowa college student, Found Dead
    August 21, 2018
As we all know that Molly Tibbetts went missing July 18th. She was last seen jogging around her home in a little town in Iowa Brooklyn. About a month later she was found dead in a cornfield. About $385,000 was raised for an reward for when Molly would return home safe. But sadly she didn’t. Her dad said she could of left home hit someone that she knew. If her dad was able to talk to her he would of said this, “hang on” “We’re gonna come get you”, “Everybody’s looking”. Mollie Tibbetts would have started her junior year last week.

In Kerala, India there was known to be 324 people dead from flash floods and landslides in the area. These floods have been the worst Kerala has ever witnessed in centuries. Many local rescue services have been sent to check in like the coast guard, navy, army, and many groups of fishermen. Friday evening a pregnant woman was rescued by a helicopter off of her rooftop. The baby was delivered 2 hours later, after the rescue. Thirty-four out of forty dams have been in full capacity and had to be opened in order to decrease damage in the town.

  9. Hurricane Lane and Severe Flooding
    Written on August 29, 2018
Due to the warmer water temps in the eastern pacific, hurricane Lane was fueled. This category 3 hurricane (tropical storm) hit Hawaii on August 24, 2018. Because the wind grew stronger, it caused the hurricane to no longer spin the direction it was going, therefore it became a tropical storm. It rained more than 3ft in some areas and has caused severe flooding. Hawaii rarely gets hit by very big storms like this, so it is one devastating event.

  12. Kerala, After the Flood 9/2/2018
Everyone has seen the rain we've been getting, but we aren't the only ones getting large amounts of rain. In India, their are people who are experiencing flooding. The main area that the flooding is in Kerala. The Indian government is having difficulties of trying to get aid and supplies to those affected. Majority of the people in this area have relocated, but trying to resettle is showing to be a problem. With Northern India preparing for heavy rains and those affected not having the necessary supplies, the government of India has a lot of work to do.

  13. “Hawaii “dodged a bullet” as Lane weakens to a tropical storm” By Faith Karimi, Joe Sterling, and Amanda Watts
    Written August 26, 2018
A couple of weeks ago, a disturbance, originally considered a category 3 hurricane, hit the islands of Hawaii. Over a few days, the deluge weakened and is now only considered a tropical storm, but the immense amount of rain caused multiple landslides and flooding on the islands. This storm, named Lane, moved slowly, causing long periods of heavy precipitation and accumulation. Lane is in the top 5 highest recorded amounts of rainfall of any storm in history making it a memorable disaster. Only time will tell how Hawaii will recover from this incident.

As a result of the raging wildfires, the air quality in the province has significantly been getting worse. There are 56 different wildfires in the province that are apart of the disaster. One of the biggest factors of why the fires are bad this year is because of the dry weather has only made the situation grow bigger.

Many southeastern states have been told to watch out for the tropical storm “Gordon” as it is set to hit the Gulf of Mexico and then head into the lower parts of Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, and parts of Florida. They are guessing rain to be up to eight inches with mass flooding. The wind was last marked at 60mph. To prepare for Gordon they have had the national guard help evacuate parts of Florida and Alabama. And for the other states, they have the national guard posted to help in any way they can. They have said this tropical storm could have the potential to become a category 1 hurricane.

Due to California's dry vegetation and its recent high temperature records, there have been multiple forest fires occurring within the state. One of which being the Carr fire, destroying over 600 homes.

It is also the 7th worst wildfire in California's history. In fact, the fires have been so bad that a firefighting manpower of around 12,000 people, coming from 16 different states, are being utilized to fight the fires with sometimes over 16 hour shifts.

In fact, while researching this topic, I found that "firenadoes", which are exactly what they sound like, are in fact a thing that exists.

Other believe that just due to large storms and the way we use our land compared to how we used to caused the large amount of flooding. Which ever way it is the flooding has ravaged some towns along large water sources.

  57. On July 19 a tornado hit Pella, Iowa. The Vermeer agricultural equipment facility was one of the major buildings that was hit in Pella. Not all of the buildings on sight had damage done to them. Seven people were injured and taken to the hospital, but had minor injuries. There were also some other employees that didn't have to be taken to the hospital for their injuries because they were so minor. Employees heard the alarm go off and they thought it was a tornado drill, but then realized that the alarm was going off for much longer than it would if it was just a drill.
