  7. Back on June 12 there was historical meeting between U.S. president Donald Trump and North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong in Singapore. This marked a historical point in relations between the U.S and North Korea as this was the first meeting between a sitting U.S. president and a North Korean Leader. The summit was to talk about the denuclearization of North Korea. The meetings accomplishments were mostly a start of better relations because the denuclearization agreement wasn’t very detailed and mostly played the groundwork for a start to the denuclearization process but overall better for both countries.

  14. A well known conspiracy theorist, Alex Jones, has been banned by Apple first on grounds of hate speech, followed by Youtube, Spotify and Facebook.

It was a huge cause of discussion and controversy about speech, and how social media sites can work less like services, and more as platforms for speech. Being literate in how social media works is important for business and politics, and not having that ability will give you less of an ability to "speak", per se.

So this entire incident caused a discussion about how free speech should work in social media, and whether or not it's ethical to silence someone in such a way.

LeBron James gave money to his old hometown to give kids a chance to go to college. He has partnered with Akron, Ohio to a "I Promise" program for kids who graduate and stay out of gangs and drugs. This is a 4 year deal to go to college for free if you are in the I promise program. This is how LeBron is trying to help kids who come from the same life he did. He is doing this because he wants kids to go to college and some kids don't get the chance to because they do not have the money financially to pay for college. LeBron also has a class named after him called LeBron James Family Foundation College of Education. Akron, Ohio is very excited about this.

  24. “Man Charged with Arson in Southern California’s Holy Fire” Written by Jose A Del Real. August 8, 2018

    Site:https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/09/us/california-wildfires-arson.html?rref=collection%2Ftimestopic%2FWildfires&action=click&contentCollection=science&region=stream&module=stream_unit&version=latest&contentPlacement=4&pgtype=collection

Forest Gordon Clark from Holy Jim in Southern California could be going to prison with arson charges. Clark was unpredictable and seemed mentally unstable in the eyes of his neighbors. Michael Milligan, the Fire Chief, had even received threatening messages in regards to burning up the town from Clark prior to the incident. Clark took action to his threats on August 5th, 2018 causing a 10,000 acer fire that is no where near controlled. Luckily no one has died from what is now named the “Holy Fire” but more than a dozen homes have turned to ash. Even though this flaming disaster seems rare it is actually common for wildfires to be intentionally lit. Up to half a million fires are lit by the human hand annually causing billions of dollars in damages.

Firefighters are using drones to help find out if there are people in burning buildings. The drones have thermal cameras to see the people and how hot the flames are. The drones are made of a fire resistant material. Using the drones to scout the building helps the firefighters get in and out as fast as possible with less risk of injury. They use the drones and UAVs to look at forest fires from above so the firefighters know were the fire is and were it will most likely spread to. This helps them stop the fire before it reaches that point.

On April 7, 2018, Jake Wilson an autistic teen from La Porte City went for a walk on his own. From that day forward he hasn't been seen. Many volunteers came out to help find the teen, looking in all the main places of La Porte City and even the little places that not many people visit. Everyone asked to share his name around and get the word out that he had gone missing. They were told, if anyone had information or pictures or even videos to send them to the FBI. Everyone stayed positive and hoped the see the boy again. Until August 14, when kayakers brought human remains into the police from Wolf Creek.

  54. Paul Manafort
Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort was found guilty on eight charges of bank fraud, failure to report a foreign bank account, and filing inaccurate tax returns from the year 2010 to 2014. The jury couldn't come to an agreement on ten of the eighteen counts, hence leading the judge to call a mistrial on those ten. Many people also believe that President Trump will pardon Mr. Manafort. Manafort will also have a trial in Washington D.C., but he would like it moved outside of D.C. The date of the trial was just recently pushed back to September 24th.

It has been spread through Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc. Celebrities have spoken up as well as small town people. It started when a young woman named Laura spoke out and was shut down. She was fired from her job and no one really spoke to her. She starred in an ad and the uproar of support was amazing.
