  2. Polio-Like Illness
    Written: October 7, 2018

Just recently, six children from Minnesota have been diagnosed with a disease called AFM (acute flaccid myelitis.) AFM is a very serious disease, mainly affecting the spinal chord. It is commonly compared to Polio, a potentially deadly disease that now has a vaccine. AFM is scary because there is no vaccine. This was never a concern until just recently. If an outbreak occurs, it could be detrimental to society, especially without a vaccine. The cause of AFM is still unknown as it is a fairly new disease. Doctor's are trying to make people aware of it and telling them to stay up to date on vaccines. They also advise people to stay clean and be aware of mosquitos.

Doctors say in a year they will see only one case in the whole U.S. In 2014 was their biggest outbreak with three kids. 11. Kavanaugh Sworn In As Supreme Court Justice
    https://edition.cnn.com/2018/10/06/politics/kavanaugh-final-confirmation-vote/index.html

Brett Kavanaugh was elected to the Supreme Court two days ago. After a long series of sexual assault allegations, Kavanaugh was voted into the Supreme Court by the senate, establishing a conservative majority in the Supreme Court.

His allegations further inflamed the divide between the Republicans and Democrats, with many stating that him being sworn into the Supreme Court was a shameful event.

This nomination seems to only have polarized the left and right even more, and this decision, along with the near stopping of Kavanaugh's nomination by the allegations will likely be a relevant factor that will affect voters' decisions in the midterm.
