America is "obsessed" with french fries. The mentality that french fries stem from a vegetable, making them healthy, is not all true. Yes, they do come from a potato which is a vegetable, but think about all of the other ingredients put into a french fry. Oil, cheese, and salt are the main contributing factors making them more unhealthy. Cutting back on fry intake is heavily suggested from doctors due to the negative health affects associated with them. The portion size, toppings put on the fries, and the way one feels after eating french fries are all to be considered when thinking about eating them consistently.

Instead of buying romaine lettuce for their thanksgiving meals, many people started to look at iceberg lettuce. Many sellers took advantage of people wanting lettuce, by raising the prices. With a large amount of people becoming overweight along with concerns about health and eating, food companies in Latin America are reportedly being required to place labels on their food products. According to the article, Chile seems to be taking much of a stand for this change, with the government reportedly disallowing the sales of sweets in schools, and has put regulations on "junk food advertising".

These Artists Are Creating Work That’s About, and Made From, Food
ReplyDeleteFood for most is already good to look at, but when food and art homes together it creates something beautiful. Using 16 raw yolks and some vegetables a mother and daughter made art and food come together. The reason the girls did this was because their channel "lazy mom" was getting comments sating she was a "bad mother" and that she neglects her children. The comment were said because of the photos she was posting. It was saw as playing with food and that is something not to be done. The girls saw nothing wrong as many people before her have done this before.
The girls say they think the way they "play" with their food is a way of showing their culture and if others do it then it is them showing theirs.

A burger restaurant in Hawaii has shut down for cleaning after a leaked video of employees cooking what looks to be a rat or mouse on the grill. The Snapchat video shows two workers next to a grill at what is supposedly Teddy’s Bigger Burger in Mapunapuna. One employee flips over something grey with a long tail on the grill, and another says “Hi, welcome to Teddy’s.” The restaurant got a passing grade during their last inspection in June, but they clearly didn't know about what was going on when they weren't there.

federal health officials said on Monday that you may eat romaine lettuce again. As long as you are sure that is hasn't been grown on California’s north or central coast.
The Food, Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that investigators had traced the romaine lettuce with an outbreak of e.coli that has sickened 65 people in 12 states and Canada.
According to the F.D.A. with the growing and harvesting season over, people may eat romaine lettuce that has been greenhouse grown, or has been harvested from the winter growing desert regions of the United States, and is labeled such.
5.1 millions pounds of raw beef is being recalled because it might have Salmonilla. These products have been sold Nation wide. 245 people in 25 state has gotten sick from the meat. 56 people has been hospitalized but nobody has died. The meat should be cooked to 145 degrees.

ReplyDeleteAny student who has received a ticket since November 19, at Central Michigan University's campus can turn in non-perishable food to help pay for their ticket. The food will only work for parking tickets, and can only knock off up to $35. This concept is called "Food for Fines." Being that it's so close to the holiday season, the police would much rather have students smiling that they are decreasing their fine and helping others, then angry students in an uproar. If all goes well, the police are hoping to "host" this event multiple times a year.

A woman in Florida ordered $60 dollars worth of food from UberEats and claims the UberEats driver at her food. Angel Diaz says the order she placed was canceled with out her $60 refund. The UberEats driver canceled the order claiming they couldn't reach Diaz. Diaz says no one called her or even knocked on her door. She also says she's been using UberEats for a while and no other UberEats driver has had problems reaching her house before. She reported the claim to her local new station. Uber is currently working investigating the claim. Meanwhile other UberEats drivers have also admitted to eating the customers food when they couldn't reach them or canceled the order.

Many different dog food brands were removed which mainly included chicken, lamb, and rice. The FDA says that vitamin D is an important nutrient for dogs a high amount of it can cause serious health problems. This can cause kidney failures and even kill the dog. So far the only pet products known with this problem are made for dogs.

Elm Pet Foods and the other brands have been recalled for high levels of vitamin D. Too much of vitamin D can cause kidney failure. ReplyDeleteDollar General has recently added around 125 healthy items to its shelves in 2,700 stores. The store also Annie's, Back to Nature, Honest, Nature Valley, their own brand, and Kashi brands. On Tuesday, Dollar General said the initiative was performing better than it expected, and it has plans to roll out to more stores next year. The chain began offering the products after getting feedback from shoppers who could not find affordable food with low sodium, calorie, fat and sugar levels or without artificial sweeteners.

There's now a potential solution to this problem. A group of organizations focused on feeding the hungry have evolved a new system that, so far, works well. Any social worker, illiterate included, has the ability to diagnose and treat children successfully. Each child's condition is determined by severity. Those with more severe needs are treated and sent home with a Plumpy'Nut package. Each week they return for a checkup and receive another packet. Those with less severity go to a World Food Program feeding center and take home what they need. Although many flaws can be found within these systems, some good is coming from it.

National cookie day this year was on December 4th. Although that day is already over many people were able to get free cookies. Many stores gave out free cookies yesterday for the occasion. In some stores cookie prices were lowered and special deals were offered. Cookie stores saw a boost in business. It is the holiday season and many people were thinking ahead for Christmas and buying there sweet treats ahead of time.

A famous Mexican chef dies at the age of 72 of Non Hodgkin's lymphoma. Patricia Quintana was a renowned chef and author died Monday in her Mexico City house. Her son says that Patricia was diagnosed years prior to this day. Her first book was released in 1979 titled "The Kitchen is a Game." Over multiple decades she wrote over 28 books and also multiple columns for Vouge Mexico.

Dollar General has started to stock their shelves with foods that are better for peoples health. They added 125 "better-for-you" to their shelves across 2,700 stores across the nation. Dollar General has put these on their shelves after having customers complain of not being able to find healthy foods. They said it was a nuisance to find low calorie, fat, sodium, and low sugar. Dollar General's items, for the most part, are under 10 dollars, which gives people with a low or fixed income to have a place that they can get healthy foods.

It's now okay to eat romaine lettuce again as long as it wasn't grown on the north and central coast of California. The bacteria came from a drainage system near another Arizona farm. 43 people got sick in 12 states in the US. 22 people from Canada also got infected with the E-coli virus. People are now being told to scrub and clean the areas where romaine lettuce was stored in your fridge, just to be safe.

Recently the United States are being hit by two large out breaks of food related illnesses. These sicknesses are Ecoli and Salmonella. Ecoli is recently found in romaine lettuce, and Salmonella is found in Beef. Salmonella has sickened over 200 people. These illnesses are found in many different foods, but recently more in Romaine lettuce and Beef.
