A curious case of language development in action, the same words can mean different things in the same manner when it comes to loan words. German Chancellor Angela Merkel was talking about a memory on the internet when she described it as "uncharted territory" a few years back, which generated much discussion in various internet circles at around the same timeframe, and comments how "Das hat mir einen grosen Shitstorm eingebracht", which roughly translates to "It brought about quite the shitstorm toward me."
With different connotations in German and English, the word is much more specific in meaning in German, commonly referring to, according to the article, "storms of outrage", such as in social media. In fact, it became part of German dictionaries a few years ago, and, according to the article, most Germans generally aren't aware of its vulgar connotations in the English language and is generally accepted.
Of course, the comment itself brought about the subject of the very word in certain circles, and stands as an interesting case of cultural and linguistic differences, even when it comes to the "same" words.
