Lilly Smartelli, 55, has dreamed about marrying her best friend on Valentines day. She doesn't think of February as a national holiday, but she thinks of it as a day of comfort and love. A book that she wrote her self, "The $5 Wedding Dog" stars a dog by the name of Bernie, her own dog. She says, "I Bernie to death and he will make a handsome wedding groom." Bernie is a dog that she rescued back in 2011, and she is looking forward to marrying him. She now has a disease that is causing scarring in her lungs and make it hard to breath at times. The doctors say she has a year or two left of good living, and she says she wants to marry her dog with the time left.

A father and son were arrested yesterday when it was discovered they had 140 animals in current neglect and 9 dead. The two owned three farms in the surrounding area and they were reported when a neighbor called in about possible dead animals along with multiple in neglect. One of the multiple charges they had against them were animals that were collected from a shelter or pound, and then again re-neglected or abused. It is believed that more animals had died previously, but were disposed of somewhat more properly, however, the 9 that had died were left out in the open sparking the original call.
