  3. 1 dead, 2 injured after strong storm ripped through Keokuk County
The Keokuk County Sheriff’s Office confirms one person died and two were injured as a result of the strong storms and damaging winds that ripped though much of eastern Iowa. Uprooted trees, twisted metal and debris have scattered the streets in Kinross after the storms. Barns, and light poles are also down and scattered across counties were the storm hit.
Gary Sampson lives on the northwest side of Kinross, an area that appears to be one of the hardest hit.“Our fire pit ring, out from the bricks around it, put it over by the neighbor’s house,” said Sampson. His property sustained little damage, but across the road was a different story. Metal siding was tossed over hay stacks and the roof of a storage shed torn off.

  15. One of Daniel Nocera's experiments has become known as the "holy grail" of energy research. His experiment had a glass of tap water with a thumb-sized strip of silicon floating in it. When he had held it up to the light, the strip had begun to bubble. It had seemed to be splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen. This would mean that you could take any tub of water and with a few inexpensive materials and a little light, produce two powerful fuels. Professor Nocera went back for 8 months trying to prove himself wrong. It is known as Nocera's "Artificial Leaf."

  30. As the Obama administration touts its latest enrollment numbers for the ObamaCare exchanges, some state networks are grappling with major changes ahead of the next sign-up period – meaning more cost to taxpayers. The biggest overhaul came out of Oregon, which last week decided to junk its broken health care exchange and turn to the federal government for help. "Their health exchange has been a disaster,” said Michael Cannon, of the Cato Institute. "They're the only state in the country that built their own exchange and couldn't get it to a level of functionality to sign a single person up,” said Jim Capretta, of the Ethics and Public Policy Center. But Oregon isn’t the only state still struggling, months after the major problems with HealthCare.gov were addressed. Systems in Vermont, Massachusetts, Nevada and Maryland continue to have problems.
