I think the most important summer event was the suicide of Robin Williams because he was such a loved actor and person in general. While all the other actors and actresses laid back in hollywood he stayed in his home town San Francisco. He was always nice to everyone in the city and nobody could say anything bad about him.
I think the most important summer event was about Robin Williams suicide. I think that because he was in so many movies and was a great actress. He wasn't just a great actress but funny guy to and starred in so many movies that were popular. He was so many peoples favorite actor (including mine). He was good at what he did. He will be much loved and it was just sad that his depression made him go to far and kill himself. It showed everyone what depression really does to a person and shows that if your depressed to go talk to someone and get help.
I know that there was plenty of things happening this summer in Iraq, Russia, and Ukraine that could potentially effect us and many others. Since this is a question based on opinion, I honestly do believe that Robin William's death had a big impact on my generation. I grew up listening to his voice and watching him act in many popular movies, with my father, such as; Jumanji, Robots, Happy Feet, Mrs. Doubtfire, Flubber, Hook, and Rv (ect.). I believe that it was really shocking to all generations to think that the "funnies man" could commit suicide over depression. In all of the interviews not one of his closer friends even considered the thought that he was depressed. In one interview one of his close friends stated that he always masked his personality with humor. I believe that is an important statement because many of us do not know how someone is truly feeling. I believe that it brought many of us closer and impacted us to all be kind to one another because we do not know what someone may be going through. Williams was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
I think the biggest news story this summer is the ALS ice bucket challenge. The ice bucket challenge is a really cool thing! This year the ALS challenge has grown so much. It starts in the beginning of July, & goes through August. The ice bucket challenge donations has reached $62.5 million dollars as of August 23, 2014. Last year the donations reached 2.4 million dollars. ALS is a disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain & the spinal cord. The disease starts from the brain then the spinal cord & from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body, an it eventually can lead to death.
I think the biggest news story of the summer was the shooting of an unarmed African-American teenager Michael by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. Brown who was days away from starting college was gunned down by police officer Darren Wilson. Early reports said that Brown held his hands up and yelled "Don't shoot" before being fatally shot. But later reports came in saying Brown bumrushed the officer and punched him. Also, Brown had been connected to a robbery of a convenience store just minutes before the shooting. Peaceful protests in the town were marred by looters and rioters and soon the Missouri National Guard was called in to protect the town. Trial of the shooting is set for October.
The biggest news story in my opinion is that Russian hackers have stollen over 1.2 billion user names and passwords and more than 500 million email addresses from more than 420,000 websites. Its scary to think that Russian hackers could potentially have my personal information. This could affect more people than any natural disaster. This could affect peoples person finances, credit history all the way down to where you live. This could also affect the economic slowdown that we are currently in and make it considerably worse. So helpful hit change your passwords!
In my opinion the biggest news story of the summer was the Ebola Virus Disease. Researchers traced the outbreak back to a two year old kid who died in December from it. In April there was reported 157 confirmed cases of it in Guinea and 22 in Liberia. By July there was reported that over 826 people out of 1,440 had died from the virus. On August 16th a quarantine center in West Point, Monrovia was attacked by protestors who didn't trust the health care workers the attack caused a number of patients to flee the area of attack. Thousands of people in Liberia, and Guinea have been under quarantine without access to food.
My opinion Lebron James moving back to the Cleveland Cavilers. He started off his career in Cleveland and was known as the hero of Cleveland and then dropped Cleveland for the Miami Heat where he would play along with Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade. They would go to the championship every year with Miami when Lebron was there. Now that Lebron was on the Free agency Cleveland had a chance to pick him back up and play with the number one overall pick Andrew Wiggins and one of the best point guards in the NBA Kyrie Irving. They took advantage of it and picked up Lebron then Traded Andrew Wiggins for Kevin Love from the Minnesota Timberwolves. This pick up will make one of the worst teams in the League the best team in the league, and the best team in the league drop to the worst team in the league.
I think the biggest event of the summer was the suicide of comedian Robin Williams. Robin Williams was one of the most famous comedians ever, he was 63 years old born in 1951 in Chicago Illinois. He was found by his personal assistant suspended just off the ground with his own belt he suffocated to death, and he had cuts all over his wrists too. Most people that were close to him said there were no concerning problems with his mood, and no one really knows why he did it.
I think the biggest story about this summer was about the 8 year old,Elizabeth, disappearing while riding her bike and her cousin Morrisey who is 10. They were found dead in a forest in Bermer county and that happened at july 13, 2012 so that would make it 2 years . No one has been arrested till this day.
I believe that the most important event of this summer is the Michael Brown shooting. On August 9 2014 Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson shot and killed Michael Brown, an unarmed 18 year old. Ferguson PD insist the shooting was justified. Michael's family and all the witnesses say otherwise. Witnesses say Brown had his hands up when officer Darren Wilson shot him six times twice in the head. Wilson said he was holding something behind his back, But Wilson has a history of filing false police reports. Since the shooting there has been violence, rioting and even aditional casualties. The quiet suburb in Missouri of only 21,203 people was taken by storm to the point that the National Guard had to get involved.
The most important news story to me this summer was that 4 boys going to be freshman at the Western Dubuque Schools had died in an accident on August 3rd. They were riding a gator as a truck pulling a stock trailer came up over a hill heading towards a 4 way intersection. He passed a stop ahead sign but couldn't see the stop sign as a no passing sign was in the way for a couple of seconds. He ran the stop sign and killed them. The boys have shirts that have been made for them by a Dubuque tshirt company that anyone can purchase. They say bobcat strong with a tear and on the back there's a saying and all 4 of the boys initials. Over 4,000 shirts have been printed.
On August 9, 2014, in Ferguson, Missouri, United States, a suburb of St. Louis. Michael Brown, an unarmed 18-year-old black male, died after being shot at least six times by police officer Darren Wilson. According to witness reports and Ferguson police, Wilson drove up to Brown and a friend and ordered them to move off the street and onto the sidewalk. A shot was fired from within the vehicle and Brown and Johnson began to flee. Wilson left his vehicle, fired his pistol at Brown and confronted him. Wilson then fired several shots at Brown, fatally wounding him. Witness reports greatly differ as to whether Brown was standing with his hands up or moving towards Wilson when Wilson shot him multiple times. The shooting is under investigation by a grand jury.
James Foley was an American journalist. He reported about many conflicts. The conflicts were from Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya. In Libya he was once held captive for 44 days in May 2011. He disappeared in northwest Syria by the Turkey border on Nov. 22, 2012. He was kidnapped by a terrorist group called The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS). On Tuesday, Aug. 19th, ISIS beheaded American Journalist James Foley. ISIS video tapped the beheading and in the video it is believed there is another journalist by the name of Steven Sotloff who was kidnapped by the Syrian and Turkey border in 2013. In the video it is said that the fate of the other American is in the hands of President Barack Obama. His life or death depends on what Obama does next. Foley's death has brought up memories of another journalist, Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped in Pakistan in 2002 and was also decapitated. ISIS is a threat to our country and Republicans in Congress are pushing strongly to start a military campaign in Syria to defeat ISIS. For years Obama has refused to be involved in a complex civil war in Syria. I think this is the biggest news story of the summer. It will be interesting to see how the Government's plans against ISIS will play out.
In my opinion the Supreme court case with Obamacare and religious companies is the biggest news story of the summer. Obamacare states that employers must provide insurance coverage for contraceptives. Religious companies, like Hobby Lobby, refused to include contraceptives under there health care insurance. The Supreme court ruled in favor of protecting religous beliefs, but unfortunally this ruling did not influence the school adminitration at a tennessee school where a teen was suspended for saying God bless you to another student that had sneezed.
The biggest news over the summer was Michael Brown being shot. Michael Brown was shot by a withe police. It was reported officer Darren Wilson shot unarm Brown. There was chaos and protest in the stress of ferguson. The Missouri National Guard was called in to protect the town.
The biggest news story I thought was the death of Michael Brown. He was stopped by Darren Wilson for jaywalking. He was unarmed and attempted to surrender and he was shot six times. Michael's shooting caused people to freak out. After the death of Michael there was riots and robberies and protesting against law enforcement. There also was people from other states coming and protesting because they thought how everything happened was wrong. It ended up getting out of control to the point where they had to call the National Guard. This impacts us because then people start seeing what's going on and thinking that it happens there too. They have started protesting and then more things start happening in other states, towns, and cities. http://www.cnn.com/2014/08/26/us/michael-brown-ferguson-shooting/index.html?hpt=hp_c2
298 people onboard Flight 17 died when the plane was shot down over eastern Ukraine controlled by pro-Russia separatists when it was flying to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam. 43 Malaysians and 195 Dutch nationals died on this flight. This was the second tragedy that happened on the national airline this year. No one has yet got arrested for this incident. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2014/08/21/malaysia-prepares-to-receive-bodies-from-m17-crash/14421075/
The biggest news story of 2014 I think is Michael Sam, a current player of the Saint Louis Rams. Michael is the first openly gay person to be drafted to the NFL. Many teams did not choose Michael during the draft because he was gay. Michael Sam inspired many other gay athletes to come out to like Jason Collins of the Brooklyn Nets. Many of his team has came out to the media and did say that we treat him like any other person on this team, no one cares about his sexuality were a team! many people say that he shouldn't be playing in the NFL and some people say he inspired so many people. The next question tho is will he make the roster cut in a couple days???
Well in my opinion my close friend Robin McLuarin Williams death was the BIGGEST news story of the summer. He died on August 11 2014 from asphyxia because he hung himself. They say had depression, I don't know for sure. He was a really really funny comedian I'd say. Robin's wife Susan said he had early stages of parkinson's disease, so maybe that led him I don't know. Despite the 80's I'd say he is someone young adults should look up to.
In my opinion the biggest story over the summer was Mo'ne Davis. She was the first girl to win a game pitching. I think it's a big deal because it will open the door up for other girls to play baseball. Her favorite sport is basketball. Her dream is to play basketball for Connecticut.
The ISIS beheading of free lance journalist James Foley is to me a clear choice for the biggest news story of the summer, not only because it affected the U.S, but also the world. Foley was last seen in Syria in November while working for a U.S. based online news outlet called GlobalPost. He reportedly disappeared after being forced into a vehicle by armed men. On Tuesday a video surfaced depicting James Foley on his knees before a masked man with what appears to be a British accent. Foley reads a message sating that America is his “real killer.” He makes a brief statement,"I wish I had more time. I wish I could have the hope for freedom to see my family once again," and is then shown being beheaded. Though there is some skepticism on the authenticity of the video, at this current time the government appears to believe the video is very real, and are working as quickly as possible to prove the authenticity and find the identity of the murderer.
My news story is about a 9year old girl that shot here gun instructor. The gun (uzi) kicked back and she accidentally pulled the trigger. The instructors name was Charles Vacca. people are saying that she was too young to be shooting that big of a gun. http://abcnews.go.com/US/year-girl-accidentally-kills-shooting-range-instructor/story?id=25139216
On August 11th, 2014 the beloved Robin Williams was found dead in his home from apparent suicide. Though the true cause may never be known, struggles with depression, anxiety, and early on Parkinsons Disease all very likely played a role. Grief was expressed worldwide. Robin Williams was known for his comical approach to everything and the smile he could put on anyone’s face. On the outside, to many, Williams seemed to have it all together, which further proves why the struggle with depression is not a joke.
Prior to Robin Williams’ death, Henry Rollins of Black Flag criticized Williams for leaving his children behind. Not long before, Gene Simmons of KISS made disrespectful remarks about people with depression and victims of suicide.
I think this is a very important story, considering since such an iconic and talented man was pushed to the point where he felt the need to take his own life, we all need to be educated on the dangers of depression.
In my opinion the biggest news story of the summer was the Paul George injury. In a scrimmage between USA White and USA Blue Paul George was hustling back to play defense and jumped to block James Harden's shot, when he landed his foot got caught in an awkward spot between the support stanchion and the ground and his leg fractured just above his ankle. He was carried of the court and into surgery right after that.
I think the biggest news story of the summer was the ebola outbreak in west Africa. It’s the worst ebola outbreak in history. The Liberian president says that the ebola outbreak has yet to reach its peak. Ebola has killed 1,426 of the 2,615 people that have contracted the virus in west Africa. Doctors and health workers have criticized the government's handling of the crisis. They say the death toll could have been reduced if they had been given access to basic equipment, such as latex gloves and sanitary smocks.
I think that the biggest news story of the summer to me was Tony Stewart hitting a driver in the race and killing him. He struck Kevin Ward JR as he left his car to confront Tony about something he did in the race. They where racing on a dirt sprint track so Tony tried to drift the corner otherwise Tony would of wreck and he hit Kevin and killed him. Kevin Ward was only 20. http://abcnews.go.com/US/nascar-driver-tony-stewart-return-competition-weekend/story?id=25166816
I think the biggest event that happened over the summer, even though we were in school, was the missing Malaysian Airlines flight 370. I think it is a big story because it has been missing for about six months now, and it leaves so many families wondering everyday that their child, mother, or father is a live or not. There were three Americans that were on that flight. The search is set to start again though in a few weeks. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/malaysia-airlines-flight-370-phone-call-data-may-alter-jet-search-area/ http://parade.condenast.com/272633/ashleighschmitz/who-went-missing-the-people-who-disappeared-on-malaysia-airlines-flight-370/
I think this summers biggest news is Michael Brown getting shot and killed by a police officer. He was shot in a St Louis suburb in Ferguson, Missori. He was only 18 years old he was just gonna go to college.
On August 9th Michael Brown and his friend were jaywalking and wilson drove up to them to tell them to get on the sidewalk. They started yelling at eachother then Wilson shot Michael, and Michael and Dorian started running away. Then Wison kept on firing and Michael surrendered with his hand up. He died with six shots. Four in his right arm, 1 in his head, and one in his eye. They say it all happened within three minutes.
His friend with him said the officer was attacking Michael, and its completely his fault. Michael didn’t have any weapons on him so he couldn’t defend himself. Everyone that saw it happened all saw Wilson shot him down.
Police have opened a civil rights investigation. But police have found out that Michael and Dorian robbed a convience store. Michael took cigarsThey released Dorian since he didn’t actually rob the store, and they released the cop that shot Michael. CNN even has a video of the shooting. Saying they heard 11 shots. People think the video was messed with to frame him. Governor Nixon is blaming the chief of police for this shooting.
His parents made a statement about their son holding his hands up in surrender and he just kept on shooting.
On August 20 was court day for the shooting of Michael. The grand jury listened to all the witnesses. They think this will all be over with by the middle of October. But Jamilah Nasheed made a petition saying he doesn’t want McCullosh defending Michael Brown. They already have 70000 signatures. Their have been many protests against being civil, and the shooting.
Flowers and candles were put in the street for his death.
As of August 26th: James Foley’s decapitation video has brought a lot of attention toward the Isis terrorism in both Iraq and Syria. While doing humanitarian relief work in Syria, over a year ago, now identified American woman was taken captive by the Isis group. Isis is demanding $6.6 million and the release of the U.S. captives for the life of the 26 year year old woman, who the family requested not be identified. This woman one of at least four known Americans to be help captive by Isis. In addition to the millions of dollars in ransom, Isis also demands that the US release Aafia Siddiqui (MIT-trained neuorscientist) Isis states that Siidiqui has been in touch with his family, but his family says they do not want anyone to suffer to such ransom and has distanced themselves from Isis. http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/isis-demands-66m-ransom-26-year-american-woman/story?id=25127682

ReplyDeleteThe ISIS beheading of free lance journalist James Foley is to me a clear choice for the biggest news story of the summer, not only because it affected the U.S, but also the world.
ReplyDeleteFoley was last seen in Syria in November while working for a U.S. based online news outlet called GlobalPost.

ReplyDeleteOn August 11th, 2014 the beloved Robin Williams was found dead in his home from apparent suicide.
ReplyDeletePrior to Robin Williams’ death, Henry Rollins of Black Flag criticized Williams for leaving his children behind.

ReplyDeleteI think that the biggest news story of the summer to me was Tony Stewart hitting a driver in the race and killing him. He struck Kevin Ward JR as he left his car to confront Tony about something he did in the race. They where racing on a dirt sprint track so Tony tried to drift the corner otherwise Tony would of wreck and he hit Kevin and killed him. Kevin Ward was only 20.

I think this summers biggest news is Michael Brown getting shot and killed by a police officer. He was shot in a St Louis suburb in Ferguson, Missori. He was only 18 years old he was just gonna go to college.
ReplyDeleteOn August 9th Michael Brown and his friend were jaywalking and wilson drove up to them to tell them to get on the sidewalk.
As of August 26th:
ReplyDeleteJames Foley’s decapitation video has brought a lot of attention toward the Isis terrorism in both Iraq and Syria.
In addition to the millions of dollars in ransom, Isis also demands that the US release Aafia Siddiqui (MIT-trained neuorscientist)
Isis states that Siidiqui has been in touch with his family, but his family says they do not want anyone to suffer to such ransom and has distanced themselves from Isis.
