  2. The Woman Who Dresses 'Like A Boy' To Work As A Barber
    March 16, 2019

The workforce in Asia is harder than the work force in the United States. Neha Sharma’s father is paralyzed and she couldn't help but be more sad about it. Her father was a profound barber and he had many clients. To keep bringing money to her family, she decided to take after her father. She cut her hair and started to dress and "act" similar to a boy. Sharma did this because she was afraid of not receiving any clients if she was a girl. Today, she continues to father her fathers legacy and thrives in barbering. She is now her own person as a man.

    https://news.mongabay.com/2019/03/sri-lankas-new-green-tax-not-a-hit-with-drivers-or-environmentalists/

Sri Lanka is a country off the coast of India. Sri Lanka made a new tax that taxes cars on their carbon emission. Cars that give off lots of carbon will be heavily taxed, whereas those who have electric cars will be exempt. Many aren't happy with this new tax. This tax is believe to produce $14 million. People are upset because this is a 20% tax and they already have many taxes in place for the exact same thing. Sri Lanka is trying to become a green country, but they still have a ways to go.

  4. How China Began World War III in the South China Sea

If you didn't know the South China Sea is south of China and contains 1.6 million square miles of ocean. China claims the entire area even the large majority it is nowhere near the mainland. According to maritime law, China should only get 10,000 square miles of that. Even though it really shouldn't be, the south china sea is highly controversial.

China forces any ships or aircraft entering the area to identify themselves. They've threatened to sink any ships that enter without "Permission". Not only that, but they've built artificial islands(military bases) in the disputed territory. The issue here is that china refuses to accept maritime law. Due to that, countries like the US, Canada, Australia, Japan, ect conduct sail-throughs called Freedom of Navigation exercises. Freedom of Navigation exercises make an attempt to show china how ridiculous their claims are.

"New data shows Japanese citizens prefer whale watching to whale meat."
Japan, with a controversial record on its hands in regards to whale hunting, has whale watching as a rising part of its tourism industry, especially among nationals.

IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare) estimates state that 2/3 of whale watchers are nationals as opposed to foreigners, and the industry, as the IFAW believes, is growing 20% every year, and is a million dollar industry.

Patrick Ramage, an official of the IFAW, reminds that just because this rise exists does not necessarily mean that opinions of whale conservation are on the rise. However, this could be a promising sign.

  34. Chinese Dating Show Puts Veto Power in Parents’ Hands
    -
Hundreds of years ago, Chinese people always had an arranged marriage where their parents would pick who they married. While it has become less common in recent years, many Chinese parents usually have a veto over who their child marries. They have this veto because weddings cost around 30,000 dollars in China and if parents get the final say on a marriage, they are more likely to help with the cost. This year, China started filming a dating show where parents make an arranged marriage for their child. This TV show is bringing back the once strict tradition found many years ago.
